Central Elementary School
Dear Students and Families,
Welcome to Central Elementary! We are excited about a new year and looking forward to a happy and productive year.
The instructional focus of Central Elementary is to unify all faculty and students in an endeavor to increase literacy proficiency. School-wide evidence based practices aligned to Common Core Standards will be used to achieve our focus. The students’ growth in critical thinking skills will be measured through DIBELS, Math benchmark tests, and LEAP/Ileap, and PARCC test data.
Our teachers have been working with our children on teaching expectations, transitions, routines, and procedures. I am happy to report that our students are doing excellent with following directions. Please review the new “parish wide discipline policy” with your children to make sure we have a great year without any office visits.
Our school wide homework policy is in our school hand book. We send signing papers on Tuesday. Ask your child about our homework policy. It will be with your child’s signing papers and weekly behavior report. Each night your child should have homework in at least one subject except on Wednesday and Friday nights. If your child’s teacher does not give homework please make sure your child is reading in order to improve reading comprehension and fluency skills. The staff at Central Elementary encourages the students to practice important reading and math skills in order to be successful and to gain confidence in these subjects. MAKE THEM READ!
There are several ways we would like to communicate with you this year. We would like to call you by phone, or write you an email, or simply conference with you one on one. So it is very important that we have the correct information on file in the office to reach you in case of an emergency. If you would like to speak to the principal or dean of students, please set up a conference, leave your name and number and we will return your phone call as soon as possible. Know that you are important to our staff and together we can help your child succeed.
Special school wide PBIS- Positive Behavior Intervention Supports are planned for the year. These school wide PBIS activities are implemented in order to reward your child for following school wide rules and encourage your child to do the right thing. If you would like to volunteer to help assist any school wide P.B.I.S. event please sign up during our first PTO meeting. You can also sign up at Open House.
Studies show that parental involvement in a child’s education is one of the strongest indicators of student achievement. If you have any concerns you may contact me at 377-2591. Once again, welcome to Central Elementary. Let’s work together to make this the best year ever!
